Our museum has the largest scientific insect collection of the South Pacific of Costa Rica and it is open to researchers, students and volunteers who want to learn about and investigate the knowledge of species in this area. Our collection will be a natural heritage for future generations! To collect insects from nature seems to some like cruel work. However, it is the only way to tangibly document the more than 260, 000 different extant species in the world. Our insect collection is a bank of information that will be retained for hundreds of years. The notion that collecting insects contributes to the disappearance of insects is not correct because only a small amount of them are taken for research, but the damage done through the destruction of habitats is much worse. The individuals collected allow us to know from what areas certain species inhabit and to which sites they fly their colors and sizes as well as the seasons in which they are active.
